Coach at Cimarron
Cimarron, KS: 1960-1968
That year Cimarron’s record was 5 wins and four losses but that was just the beginning of the best winning record in Cimarron’s history. The Blue Jays went on to a eight and one season in 1962 with a loss to Plains, KS. The next two seasons, 1963 and 1964, were all victorious and coupled with the three wins in 1962 after the loss to Plains, had twenty-one straight wins. The team of 1965 won their first seven games before tying Ashland in a hard fought game, giving Cimarron twenty eight straight wins. The Jays lost to Meade in the last game of the season. In those four years Cimarron had a 30-2-1 record with a string of twenty-nine games without a loss, and two undefeated seasons. The following year Cimarron had eight straight wins then a loss in Coach’s final game at Cimarron, once again loosing to a great Meade team.
Coach’s combined record in his six years at Cimarron was 46-7-1. This was all before state playoffs so rankings from the major state newspapers were the only standards that could be used. At the end of the 1964 season Cimarron was ranked number 2 in class BB and number 10 in all classes in Kansas.
