PATRICIA PENNER
2018
Recently I gave my husband a plaque that said
“Every day is an Adventure.”
As
I look back on the past 50 years that is a great way to describe my life.
After graduating from CHS, I attended Tabor
College, majoring in Modern Languages. While at Tabor I expected to find my
“true love”. Since that didn’t happen I taught for a year in Pratt. The next two
years teaching Spanish and coaching girls’ basketball. What a fun experience.
I
married Clark Harrison in 1975, and were together for 33 years before he passed
away. During that time. I continued to teach Spanish, German and English.
In 2009 I met Steve Long on a dating website.
We were married in July of that year. He had 7 children and 2 grandchildren at
the time.
I became a mother, grandma,
mother-in-law all on the same day. At the time we lived in Claflin, Kansas. I
taught in Chase and Hoisington before retiring.
In 2012, we moved to Garden City where I
taught 9th grade English. After
that year I taught reading at the college, Spanish and an ESL class. The past
two years I have been subbing at Holcomb schools. I also volunteer at the
hospital two mornings a week in the gift store. I am the wedding coordinator at
our church so I keep busy with lots of projects.
We never thought we would like
Garden City, planning only to stay a few years. Steve has a job in construction,
which he loves so we decided to make Garden city officially our home. In January
we bought a house, which we are fixing up. We love to cook out and entertain in
our home, travel, we have made lots of good friends, and look forward to many
more adventures together.
When I think of high school memories, I remember my favorite classes
being Spanish and Home Ec. Being in the school play and attending football games
and basketball games were activities that I really enjoyed. I would have to say
that being MISS FHA was one of my best memories.
P.S. I was offered a job to teach English at Cimarron High School. I
didn’t feel that I could fill Ms. Haverly’s shoes so I did not take the job!!!!!
